Today Al Gore made a prediction:

The Senate will pass a green jobs and climate bill before Copenhagen. This might go against what the pundits are saying, but I believe we are on the cusp of this remarkable achievement – however we all need to work our hardest to turn this prognostication into a reality.

According to the Intrade Prediction Market for cap and trade to be established by the end of 2oo9, Gore’s prediction may be a foolish one.  After hitting a high of $35 this past summer when Waxman-Markey passed the House, the price has dropped like a rock and settled at $9 today:

The Wall Street Journal editorial board writes:

Health care isn’t the only destructive White House priority running into trouble in the Senate. Yesterday, Barbara Boxer (Marin County) and John Kerry (Nantucket) announced that Democrats won’t release their cap-and-trade bill next week as scheduled after all, but will instead postpone it for up to a month. It’s far too early to say that carbon tax and cap is dead, but mark this delay down as one more sign that it remains well short of 60 votes.

The House barely passed the Waxman-Markey climate bill in June, and only after weeks of arm-twisting and outright legislative bribery and at significant political cost to Blue Dog Democrats. The same tactics won’t be as effective in the upper chamber. In any case Ms. Boxer, Mr. Kerry and President Obama really have to convince Members of their own party, such as Kent Conrad (North Dakota), Jay Rockefeller (West Virginia) and Blanche Lincoln (Arkansas).

The latest delay is probably a submission to reality, which is a rare thing in the current political environment—and a major victory for the U.S. economy, at least for now.

A potential paradox here is that if cap and trade goes down in flames, it will be yet another political disaster for the Obama administration, and yet the unintended consequence may be that said failure will raise the odds of an economic recovery that Obama will shamelessly take credit for. But, the stain of the legislative failure will remain forever.

Physicist, Frank J. Tipler,Professor of Mathematical Physics at Tulane University, writes at Pajamas Media:

Carbon dioxide is first and foremost a plant food. In fact, plants take carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and use the energy from sunlight to combine the CO2 with water to yield glucose, the simplest sugar molecule. Carbon dioxide is also the source of all organic — this word just means “contains carbon” — molecules synthesized by plants. Without carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, there would be no organic molecules synthesized by plants. The less carbon dioxide there is in the atmosphere, the fewer organic molecules synthesized by plants. All animals depend on plants to synthesize essential organic molecules. Without the organic molecules synthesized by plants, the animal world could not exist. Without plants, there would be no biosphere.

Those who want to reduce the use of fossil fuels are the mortal enemies of the biosphere. They must be stopped at all costs! Write your senator at once!

Anti-cap & trade black ribbon

Via the Houston Tea Party Society:

Cap and Trade will cause energy prices to skyrocket for ALL Americans – and that means the death of industry, small business, growth and prosperity. And THAT means the 1930s are going to look like child’s play when Cap and Trade is done with us.

We have to fight back NOW, before Congress CAPS our prosperity and TRADES our economic freedom away! That’s why we’re announcing:

THE BLACK RIBBON CAMPAIGN

To participate, all you have to do is purchase black ribbons, fabric, trash bags etc., and from now until the end of the Independence Day weekend, tie them to every light pole, street sign, public utility pole, car antenna that you can, especially things that use power. Targeting areas around heavily trafficked public buildings is best. The black ribbons will spring up all over town almost overnight, and cause people to ask questions.

This will have the potential to spark a hundred thousand conversations about what the Congress is trying to do to us, and why we can’t let the Senate pass it as well.

GORE LIED will participate in this campaign by placing the black ribbon in the upper right hand corner of each post through the end of the Independence Day holiday weekend, with an embedded link to the Houston Tea Party Society.

Letter to the Editor on House Dems passing the climate bill: ‘…the ultimate expression of collective insanity….’

By Editor Letter to the Editor, Waxman-Markey Comments Off on Letter to the Editor on House Dems passing the climate bill: ‘…the ultimate expression of collective insanity….’

Just posted this one, and here’s another.  This time, from the Portsmouth (New Hampsire) Herald:

The American Clean Energy and Security Act, otherwise known as the cap and trade bill, must surely be the ultimate expression of collective insanity thus far proposed by this administration.

How could it have come to this? I realize that most of the readers of this paper are fervent members of the Cult of Obama, but didn’t your mother tell you, if a salesman tries to force you into a sale by telling you that you must buy right now, it is probably a lie? Don’t read it, just sign! The world will end unless you sign right now! First, the bank bailout bill, then General Motors and now this. Sound familiar?

How have we come to be so arrogant as to believe we can control the weather? To believe the now proven fraudulent premise that the sun only has a small effect on the Earth’s temperature. Imagine that! To have swallowed the premise of anthological global warming — itself based on a manipulated computer-generated graph that omitted all critical data that would have resulted in its receiving a failing grade on a high school science test — that in itself is a pathetic testimony to the state of public knowledge. Garbage in and garbage out aptly describes the entire climate control fraud.

History majors may have noticed the conspicuous absence of the “mini ice age” or the “Medieval warming period” in Dr. James E. Hansen’s now infamous “hockey stick” graph of temperatures down through history he presented to Congress, and then Sen. Al Gore, in 1988. Probably would have seemed strange to the eighth through 10th century Vikings who settled and farmed Greenland where now only permafrost and moss grows.

In spite of the more than 4,000 reputable scientists who have gone on record to testify that the theory of (man-made) climate change is a hoax, it appears that our learned legislators will put aside common sense and pass this bill. If you do nothing else, please remember who voted for it, from either party, and vote them out in the next elections. I am convinced they are tainted beyond rehabilitation and must be replaced with legislators who value the welfare of the country above their own re-election. I suppose this might not seem important to you right now, but if you can, try to remember this rant this winter when your heating oil, gasoline and food prices go up to pay for the “carbon tax.”

While you are wallowing in all that Democratic Socialism, take a moment to remember who voted for it and how good it makes you feel to be paying more, much more, doing your part to cool the Earth. I know I will.

From the (SF Bay area) Hayward Daily Review:

Just when you think it can’t get any worse, along comes Washington with “cap and trade.” Led by that giant of science, Nancy Pelosi, Congress has just passed a bill that may change our economic downturn into another depression. Not only that, it will have no measurable effect on climate. These people could make shooting yourself in the foot look like a stroke of genius.

With respect to global warming, the planet has not warmed significantly in the past 10 years, and has cooled in the past two. With respect to carbon dioxide, the U.N. manipulated the mathematical models to exaggerate the role of carbon dioxide. In truth, it is minute. This whole thing is a scam. Ever since Al Gore has been channeling “Chicken Little,” his bank account has swollen. The Democrats want in on the gravy train, at our expense.

It is worth noting that cap and trade has been in effect in Europe for a couple of years and is having many deleterious economic consequences, while producing no measurable benefit to the environment. When your heating bills double and when unemployment hits 15 percent, I hope you remember to thank the Democrats.

CONSENSUS WATCH – 6/27/2009; because without consensus, scientific conclusions would remain vulnerable to new data.

By Editor Al Gore, Consensus Watch, Waxman-Markey Comments Off on CONSENSUS WATCH – 6/27/2009; because without consensus, scientific conclusions would remain vulnerable to new data.

Straight from Planet Moron:

An ongoing series dedicated to vigorously monitoring emerging threats to The Consensus that global warming is real, caused by humans, and must be addressed at all costs. Because without consensus, scientific conclusions would remain vulnerable to new data.

Last night, the House passed the American Clean Energy Security (ACES) Act, a sweeping piece of climate legislation that will result in dramatically rising costs, increased joblessness, and a massive expansion of government control over our daily lives.

However, that’s the price we’re just going to have to pay if we want to get serious about global warming and believe that it is our moral obligation to reduce temperatures nine hundredths of one degree Fahrenheit.

That’s two years worth of warming!

Think of it.  Because of this bill, our children, and their children’s children, will be enjoying the cool sweet temperatures of 2048 even when it’s actually 2050!

It’s almost like they built a fantastical time machine.  Or, as Congressman G.K. Butterfield put it, the ACES act:

“…literally will save the planet.”

Given its importance, you probably feel badly that you didn’t take the time to carefully read the ACES act.

That’s okay.  No one did.

Also, it technically doesn’t exist.

But there’s a reason for that.  Did you ever read the ingredient label on pasteurized processed cheese product?

And did you still eat it?

That is why such things really are best left to the experts.  Well, not all the experts.  Some experts disagree with The Consensus, which makes no sense at all since there wouldn’t be a consensus if everyone didn’t agree.

That is why such disagreement must be carefully suppressed.

In fact, Speaker Nancy Pelosi said that in order to pass the legislation, representatives had to bear up under overwhelming opposition from “entrenched agents of the status quo,” also known as “the constituents they represent” who rather like the entrenched status quo of having a job.

Don’t these people know Al Gore won a Tony.  Or something.

What can you do to help ensure that The Consensus remains unchallenged?

The next time someone mentions that they seem to recall reading somewhere that there is widespread and growing dissent among credible scientists regarding The Consensus and they are thinking of maybe looking into the matter with their congressman, take them aside and point out that there is overwhelming evidence that Michael Jackson just died. Madonna can’t stop crying! Justin Timberlake blogged about it! You can listen to the 911 call!

With any luck an attractive upper-class white woman will go missing when the Senate takes it up.

J.

Inappropriate Don’t forget, Consensus Watch gear will make you a pariah among your peers faster than a Sanford/Palin 2012 bumper sticker on a Hummer! We have an extensive line of “Stop raping the planet! You may, however, touch it inappropriately,” gear (coffee cup, bags, coasters, stickers, buttons), and the classic Consensus Watch coffee mug: “Consensus Watch Because without consensus, scientific conclusions would remain vulnerable to new data.
