To satisfy your cravings for anything Climategate related, with a little schadenfreude-laden snark thrown in, The Daily Bayonet has done it again:

It’s Black Friday in America, and you can bet that the mood of climate alarmists is as dark when they discover that the holiday has done nothing to dampen public enthusiasm for ‘climategate’ news.

Here’s the third Round-Up, you can see the first here and the second here.  If you missed the regular edition of the Global Warming Hoax Weekly Round-Up, it’s here. Enjoy.

The Leak/Hack

The San Francisco Chronicle covers the ‘hack’ but fails to look at what the released emails and data might mean.  The paper interviewed a series of invested climate scaremongers to assure the Left Coasties that  there is nothing to see here, move along.

As goes the UK climate science credibility, so goes Middle Earth’s too?

If you don’t yet understand why the leak/hack is such big news, it’s because the people are involved shape the science, and the debate.  Here is an excellent chart that shows the relative email hierarchy of those exposed in the CRU leak.

The Inconvenient Emails/Data

The leaked CRU emails exposed bad behaviour, the code exposes junk science manipulated beyond the point where even the manipulators cannot figure out if it means anything:

I am very sorry to report that the rest of the databases seem to be in nearly as poor a state as
Australia was. There are hundreds if not thousands of pairs of dummy stations, one with no WMO
and one with, usually overlapping and with the same station name and very similar coordinates. I
know it could be old and new stations, but why such large overlaps if that's the case? Aarrggghhh!
There truly is no end in sight.

The Willis Eisenbach connection.  If you don’t know ’bout Willis, read the link.

Steve McIntyre explains the now infamous  ‘trick’ to hide the decline.

What do the emails show, apart from bullying and data manipulation?  How about total disregard for the scientific process.

The motely CRU’s emails and garbage code has all been too much for James Delinpole, in fact he’s so excited that he’s comparing the leak with the fall of the Berlin Wall, then writes something about zombie Reagan.  Good times.

The evidence of AGW that, well, wasn’t.

The UN IPCC decided that hiding the decline was perfectly fine.

Has the UK whitewash already begun? Remember this old adage, it’s not the crime that kills you, it’s the cover-up.

If you can believe it, you’re only about half done with this Climategate link-fest extravaganza.  For the rest, you’ll have to report to The Daily Bayonet.

Video: Sen. Inhofe calls for Climategate investigation; ‘it appears that the basis of federal programs, pending EPA rulemakings, and cap-and-trade legislation was contrived and fabricated’

By Editor Climategate, Hacked Hadley CRU files, Sen. Inhofe Comments Off on Video: Sen. Inhofe calls for Climategate investigation; ‘it appears that the basis of federal programs, pending EPA rulemakings, and cap-and-trade legislation was contrived and fabricated’

Senator Inhofe was ridiculed for famously stating that catastrophic global warming was “the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people“. As it turns out, he was right all along.  He’s been on a roll of late.

You go Senator!

The CRU leak has kept The Daily Bayonet very, very busy.  On the heels of it’s first snark-filled CRU Round-Up, here’s #2:

The CRU hack/leak story is moving fast, and it’s tough to keep up, but fear not, for another bonus round-up is here to help.

Did the BBC hide the story for a month?  Did Phil Jones know he’d be compared to a famous but unpleasant Presidential emission?  You’ll be surprised what you can learn.  Oh, and I turned up the snark-o-matic, enjoy.

The Leak/Hack

BBC weatherman Paul Hudson confirms the leaked emails are genuine.  He knows this because they were emailed to him in October.  The obvious questions are, who emailed it to him, and why did Hudson not think evidence of corruption and collusion worthy of reporting?

Was it a hack, or a leak?  Maybe it was neither.

Lord Lawson, Thatcherite ex-Chancellor of the Exchequer, demands a public enquiry into the exposed malpractice and deception of the motley CRU.

Sen. Inhofe makes me look like a genius and demands an investigation.  Thanks, Jim.

Pile on!  The CEI sues NASA/GISS for ignoring FOIA requests.  For any lefties reading, this is a face palm moment.  Go ahead, we’ll wait.

not the WWF againnot the WWF again

If it was a leak, whodunnit?

Malkin notes that enquiries are being demanded on both sides of the Atlantic. Popcorn, bring me it.

It’s the fraud, stupid.

The Inconvenient Emails/Data

Revenge of the nerds: a programmer trawls through the leaked CRU code and giggles mightily at what he finds.

Settled science, what science? James Taranto on the revelations of corruption.

Revenge of the nerds part deux: a statistician digs into the code, and is unimpressed.

Viscount Monkton reviewed the data and emails and determines that the motley CRU are criminals. Ouch, don’t sugar coat it or anything.

The CRU leak undermines scientist’s credibility and the IPCC’s ability to push junk science at a very bad time for the alarmists as they pack their bags for Hopenchangen in Copenhagen.

hopenchangenThe motley CRU made ASSes of themselves.

Freakonomicist Dubner see the ugly side of science.

Warmist believers cannot believe what they are finding out about the people they trusted were selling them, and boy, are they upset.

Do Jones et al’s repeated statements about denying FOI requests mean that the data set wasn’t lost, but deleted?

You’re not done yet, you’re only getting started, but you’ll have to visit The Daily Bayonet for Hippies Heads Exploding and the CRU hack/leak Hottie – and YES there is such a thing.

Laughable flashback: Warmer scientist on key CRU ‘scientists’ just last month: ‘They have done a tremendous service to the scientific community—and to the planet….They deserve medals….’

By Editor Climategate, Hacked Hadley CRU files, Joe Romm, Phil Jones, Tom Wigley Comments Off on Laughable flashback: Warmer scientist on key CRU ‘scientists’ just last month: ‘They have done a tremendous service to the scientific community—and to the planet….They deserve medals….’

Of course, Google is great for dredging this kind of stuff back up.  Now it seems laughable in retrospect.

As quoted by Joe Romm, Ben Santer on CRU crew members Phil Jones and Tom Wigley:

I have known Phil for most of my scientific career. He is the antithesis of the secretive, “data destroying” character the CEI and Michaels are trying to portray to the outside world. Phil and Tom Wigley have devoted significant portions of their scientific careers to the construction of the land surface temperature component of the HadCRUT dataset. They have conducted this research in a very open and transparent manner—examining sensitivities to different gridding algorithms, different ways of adjusting for urbanization effects, use of various subsets of data, different ways of dealing with changes in spatial coverage over time, etc. They have thoroughly and comprehensively documented all of their dataset construction choices. They have done a tremendous service to the scientific community—and to the planet—by making gridded surface temperature datasets available for scientific research. They deserve medals—not the kind of deliberately misleading treatment they are receiving from Pat Michaels and the CEI.

Alarmist extraordinaire Joe Romm initially observed and diagnosed the malady Anti-Science Syndrome (ASS), but turned out to be woefully wrong:

One tell-tale symptom of ASS is that a website or a writer focuses their climate attacks on non-scientists. If that non-scientist is Al Gore, this symptom alone may be definitive.

The other key symptoms involve the repetition of long-debunked denier talking points, commonly without links to supporting material. Such repetition, which can border on the pathological, is a clear warning sign.

But, Romm did get one part right about ASS:

…it can be dangerous to the health and well-being of humanity if enough people actually believe the victims.

Yes, the health and well-being, i.e. individual liberties, of humanity definitely would have been endangered had the CRU crew (coined a new term?) been successful in defrauding the public with their junk science, and bringing on their Progressive Utopian reorganization of society via the lie that the earth’s thermostat needed to be turned down a fraction of a degree.

Yes, the CRU crew certainly suffers from ASS.

Note: I’ll henceforth call the Jones, Mann, Schmidt, Trenberth, et. al. the “CRU crew” when referring to them as a group, as they no longer deserve to be called scientists – as evidenced by their ASS.

Could be.

As noted here earlier today, according to the CRU web page, a staffer named Mr. Ian (Harry) Harris performs “dendroclimatology, climate scenario development, data manipulation and visualisation, programming”.

Ian Harry Harris

Soylent Green thinks there’s something fishy about the Harry_Read_Me file, which was also noted by Steve McIntyre:

Love the ironic title. Got this from reader, Glenn. I’m out of my depth trying to read the code–and apparently so were several folks at CRU. If what he, and the techies at the links, say is true, it’s no wonder they had to spin this for 10 years–it’s all absolute bullshit.

Here’s Glenn’s take with links:

The hacked e-mails were damning, but the problems they had handling their own data at CRU are a dagger to the heart of the global warming “theory.” There is a large file of comments by a programmer at CRU called HARRY_READ_ME documenting that their data processing and modeling functions were completely out of control.

They fudged so much that NOTHING that came out of CRU can have ANY believability. If the word can be gotten out on this and understood it is the end of the global warming myth. This much bigger than the e-mails. For techie takes on this see:

http://www.tickerforum.org/cgi-ticker/akcs-www?post=118625&page=13

http://www.neuralnetwriter.cylo42.com/node/2421

To base a re-making of the global economy (i.e. cap-and-trade)on disastrously and hopelessly messed up data like this would be insanity.

So, perhaps Mr. Ian (Harry) Harris is connected to this now notorious Harry_Read_Me file.

Brainstorming and thinking out loud in the comments is highly recommended.

Hat tip (again) to reader JasonR.
