Origin of the phrase ‘climate change’? Blame it on Bush

As the public’s belief in man-made global warming/climate change fades, perhaps the alarmists can heap some of the blame for the failure of the hoax on George W. Bush’s shoulders.  A letter to the editor of The Oregonian:

“Climate change” is politically correct nonsense, but Republican pollster Frank Luntz and George W. Bush are to blame, not Al Gore. Luntz sold the phrase to Bush: “Climate change” is less frightening than “global warming.” While “global warming” has catastrophic connotations attached, “climate change” suggests a more controllable challenge. Bush agreed.

Republican political appointees at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, where I was a biologist, forced scientists to always use “climate change” instead of the accurate and alarming “global warming.”

Gordon J. Fulks, Ph.D., writes in The Oregonian:

Charlatans use every opportunity to promote climate hysteria, claiming that the global temperature is rising inexorably. Yet they overwhelmingly lack training in physics and meteorology.  And the best satellite data show that the Earth as a whole has been gradually cooling for a decade.They love “green science” because it is wonderfully suited to selling expensive climate “solutions” to the scientifically challenged.  Never mind that it is neither green nor science, just politics.  Never mind that climate variations are perfectly natural and unstoppable.  An army of propagandists say that man is the culprit, and carbon taxes are the solution.

If President Obama’s climte agenda passes, expect the problem to slowly fade – because it never existed in the first place and few will tolerate escalating energy prices that dramatically lower our standard of living.

Real science is based on real evidence that can be independently verified, not on testimonials from those funded by politicians.

Real evidence of climate change is easy to find.

Real evidence that man caused it via greenhouse gases is completely missing.

Man does cause local warming through urbanization. This biases many terrestrial temperature records, providing fodder for alarmists.

According to The Oregonian, Gordon J. Fulks, Ph.D. lives in Corbett, Oregon, and holds a doctorate in Physics from the University of Chicago, Laboratory for Astrophysics and Space Research.

Also, Dr. Fulks is one of the 31,478 scientists who have signed the Oregon Petition, and one of 9,029 Ph.Ds who have signed it.

As temperatures continue to fall, letter writer suggests rebranding global warming yet again: ‘man-made atmosphere change’

This is getting ridiculous.

Lately it’s been called “our deteriorating atmosphere“.  Before that it was the “climate crisis”.  Before that it was called “climate change”.  Before that it had been called “global warming”.  Before that it had been called the weather.  Now, Joy Trueblood, of Sandy, Oregon proposes it be called, “man-made atmosphere change”. No doubt because the earth hasn’t been warming for the past eleven years.

From The Oregonian:

The recent letters in your paper disputing climate change show clearly why we need to relabel the problem as “man-made atmosphere change.”

Man-made atmosphere change is real. It’s happening now. It can’t be disputed. It can be measured. All reputable scientists know it’s happening, and most laymen can understand it.

It can be shown in pictures of smokestacks and tailpipes emitting carbon dioxide along with other pollutants. Pictures make it easier for climate change deniers to understand what is happening.

Climate change is just one consequence of letting polluters mess with our atmosphere. It seems incredibly stupid, as well as morally wrong, to change the atmosphere that produced and sustains our life on Earth, especially if solutions are as simple as more emissions controls on smokestacks and cars, driving less, eating less beef and using birth control.

Softball question for James Hansen:

…I wonder if that’s not another part of the reason that the public has a certain trouble connecting this is ’cause we in the press for so long mimicking you, with all due respect, in the scientific world.  Most of your models were talking about the year 2100 as when we would REALLY feel the impacts, and hasn’t climate change arrived 100 years sooner than you scientists expected?

To which Hansen deadpans:

…The climate models were not, uh, are more sluggish than the real world has turned out to be.

Video: Is NBC’s Brian Williams rooting for global warming? It sounds like it.

The Business and Media Institute is reporting that after a news report detailing unseasonably cold and stormy weather for early June, NBC NBC chief environmental affairs correspondent Anne Thompson said:

“This less-than-beach-like weather may have you wondering about global warming,” Thompson said. “This cold spell is a snapshot, just a couple of weeks. Global warming is something that happens over decades and centuries. So hang in there, summer and its warmth is on the horizon.”

That seems to have calmed down Brian William’s who apparently is enthusiastically looking forward to the coming man-made climate apocalypse.

That news of warm weather and theory of global warming was reassuring for Williams. “Glad to hear that. I was beginning to worry,” he said.

Williams didn’t outright say he was “rooting for global warming”, but he seems to agree with that sentiment. He’d probably identify with these two nuts.

Al Gore cheered the progress of the Waxman-Malarkey climate change bill, even though some other greens were lukewarm to it.  What Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth don’t realize is that the Bill is good for Al Gore’s pocketbook, it has nothing to do with global warming.

Einer Kleiner Perkins, Al Gore’s favorite investment managers, and a conflict of interests?  Say it ain’t so.  Take a look at the KP web site front page, it’s linked to Generation Investment Management (Al’s offset vehicle, among other things) and an Apple iFund.  Guess who sits on Apple’s board?  Cosy.

A Gorebot that attended the recent hysterics hoe-down in Nashville noted that the alarmists were living the dream, even as polls suggested that their nightmares are coming true:

While the polls suggested failure, the mood at the summit—a reunion of 600 global warming foot soldiers in Nashville, TN, from May 14 through 16, 2009—was positively celebratory.

News flash: Real Americans can’t stand Al Gore.  I’m shocked, shocked by this news.

Canadian weather hysteric and evergreen hippie David Suzuki is getting a school named after him.  The $14 million project will “feature the latest in “green” environmental design and technology” of course.  No doubt the Ontario Ministry of Education will soon announce a Josef Stalin school, if the aim is to celebrate totalitarians.

Meanwhile, true to form, Suzuki finds the scariest study du jour and peddles it on his website.  This week he provides cover for the discredited Lancet’s headliner ‘that climate change is the biggest global health threat we face‘.

Prince Charles, noted climatologist and cautionary example of the dangers of inbreeding, suggested that the world is in a last chance saloon to stop global warming.  It’s no wonder his poor mother won’t abdicate, she knows he’s an empty suit.
