Climategate Round-Up #9

By Editor Climategate Comments Off on Climategate Round-Up #9

The Daily Bayonet continues to prove that Climategate is the gift that keeps on giving:

How better to spend the dog days between Christmas and New Year than to catch up on your favorite climate conspiracy.  Grab another eggnog and a mince pie, I have a mini-linkapalooza for you.

If you missed them, Climategate Round-Ups 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.

The Leak/Hack

Thou Shalt Not Delete.  So sayeth the Department of the Environment, in lawyer speak.  The notice is too late for the very absent Phil Jones, who has received a few bucks from the DoE, but also has been careless with data.  Oops.

The Russki’s point a finger at CRU and accuses them of manipulating data to show more warming.  Ouch, da?

More on the Russian accusations:

The IEA believes that Russian meteorological-station data did not substantiate the anthropogenic global-warming theory. …The data of stations located in areas not listed in the Hadley Climate Research Unit Temperature UK (HadCRUT) survey often does not show any substantial warming in the late 20th century and the early 21st century.

The HadCRUT database includes specific stations providing incomplete data and highlighting the global-warming process, rather than stations facilitating uninterrupted observations. …

Global warming believers react to the Russian accusation, by attempting to discredit the accusers instead of questioning their faith.

The revelations aren’t over yet, there’s more gold in them thar emails.

There’s much, much more at The Daily Bayonet. You’ll undoubtedly enjoy the Climategate Hottie, but my personal favorite is, “Hippies Heads Exploding”. Go there, now.

I’ve been wondering if all of the  leaked (or hacked) CRU e-mails have actually been read?  I mean virtually everyone has heard of the notorious “hide the decline” and “Mike’s Nature trick” e-mails.  Perhaps they haven’t all been read, and everyone assumed that someone else would have already read the most damning ones, and blasted them through the blogosphere by now.

Today, I went back to my personal copies of the CRU leaked e-mails, and started randomly clicking away at e-mail files, much like I’d done late at night when I discovered, and was the first to broadcast this infamous e-mail the the outside world:  “The fact is that we can’t account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can’t.”

What did I find?

From: Phil Jones
To: Benjamin Santer
Subject: JGR paper
Date: Fri Aug 18 17:19:46 2000

Ben,
Here a few main points about the paper. I’ve ignored minor English/wording things I spotted.

p4 It seems better to put the other anthro forcings before the natural get discussed. (top of page). ie Other heteorogeneous.. sentence should be before Stratospheric aerosols.

Of course it “seems better” to Phil Jones! In other words: focus on man.

Here’s the entire e-mail in full context.

And that’s just one more nugget I found in about five minutes.  Perhaps there’s still much more in those e-mails that hasn’t yet been exposed to the light of day.

When I Googled “It seems better to put the other anthro forcings before the natural get discussed” I didn’t come up with anything except for where that e-mail existed in the online database of the CRU e-mails. So, perhaps there is more to be discovered.

If readers want to have a go of it, here’s where you will find all the e-mails, and can start reading them.  If you find anything of interest, please leave it in the comments.

Climategate Round-Up #8

By Editor Climategate Comments Off on Climategate Round-Up #8

Climategate ain’t goin’ away folks, and neither are The Daily Bayonet’s Climategate Round-Ups:

Alarmists act like rodents, Tony Blair says that science don’t matter and the Daily Mail won’t stop asking awkward questions.  Life is good for skeptics and awful for weather hysterics, and there’s a hottie.  Do Monday’s get any better than this?

The Leak/Hack

Deny, deny, deny.

How damaging was the leak?  Very, very damaging.  And not just for the motley CRU:

ClimateGate doesn’t just bring down the scientists who wrote the emails, it brings down all the institutions and organizations that were supposed to have exacting standards and ought to have exposed the crimes years ago. The men whose work was so bogus, were lauded by the IPCC, published in Nature and Science, and defended by the National Academy of Science.

This evidence of collusion, falsification, hiding data, and consistent deceit blows away the infrastructures of the practice of science. It doesn’t hurt the scientific method, but it destroys the premise that the IPCC expert review means anything, that peer review is capable of even picking up outright fraud, and that the National Academy of Science is functional.

Climategate Inconvenient Emails/Data

One atmospheric scientist suggests that the motley CRU “substituted the search for truth with an attempt at proving one point of view“.

The UK Met Office doubles down on stupid, but wait, what’s that… coercion?

Facts, damned inconvenient when you’re trying to hobble the world’s economic engine.

Steve McIntyre, statistician and kryptonite to corrupt scientists everywhere, eviscerates the IPCC ‘trick’. I believe those are Michael Mann’s credibility entrails on the floor.  It has much to do with this image, read it all:

end of the green line?end of the green line?

The climategate leak/hack broke the dam, and now there is more evidence of data being maniupulated coming from around the world.

The 60 second video that destroys the hockey-stick myth once and for all:

UPDATE: CRU has removed data from it’s website. What PR advice are these folks getting? They have even less clue about how to manage the fallout from their misbehavior than they do about the scientific method.

That’s only the beginning. There’s much more Climategate schadendfreude going on at The Daily Bayonet. I recommend you go there now.

It’s become painfully obvious that Al Gore hasn’t read the documents pertaining to the Climategate scandal.  Failing to fact-check The Goracle, Slate swallows this whopper whole:

To paraphrase Shakespeare, it’s sound and fury signifying nothing. I haven’t read all the e-mails, but the most recent one is more than 10 years old. These private exchanges between these scientists do not in any way cause any question about the scientific consensus. But the noise machine built by the climate deniers often seizes on what they can blow out of proportion, so they’ve thought this is a bigger deal than it is.

It’s been widely reported that many of the leaked e-mails are very recent, some sent amongst the Motley CRU just last month:

cru_nov12-email

Today, the newer Climategate e-mails are about a month old, but at the time that they were leaked on The Air Vent blog’s comments section, they were only five days old.

Gore’s lies just keep piling up: Last month it was revealed Al Gore lied about the temperature of the “interior of the earth” by, oh, several million degrees.

When are people going to stop taking Al Gore seriously?

Atmospheric scientist on Climategate revelations: ‘are but the tip of a giant iceberg of a well organized international climate warming conspiracy’

By Editor Climategate, William Gray Comments Off on Atmospheric scientist on Climategate revelations: ‘are but the tip of a giant iceberg of a well organized international climate warming conspiracy’

Atmospheric scientist and hurricane forecasting expert Dr. William Gray:

Had I not devoted my entire career of over half-a-century to the study and forecasting of meteorological and climate events I would have likely been concerned over the possibility of humans causing serious global climate degradation.

There has been an unrelenting quarter century of one-sided indoctrination of the western world by the media and by various scientists and governments concerning a coming carbon dioxide (CO_2 ) induced global warming disaster. These warming scenarios have been orchestrated by a combination of environmentalists, vested interest scientists wanting larger federal grants and publicity, the media which profits from doomsday scenario reporting, governmental bureaucrats who want more power over our lives, and socialists who want to level-out global living standards. These many alarmist groups appear to have little concern over whether their global warming prognostications are accurate, however. And they most certainly are not. The alarmists believe they will be able to scare enough of our citizens into believing their propaganda that the public will be willing to follow their advice on future energy usage and agree to a lowering of their standard of living in the name of climate salvation.

Rising levels of CO_2 are not near the threat these alarmists have portrayed them to be. There has yet to be a honest and broad scientific debate on the basic science of CO_2 ‘s influence on global temperature. The global climate models predicting large amounts of global warming for a doubling of CO_2 are badly flawed. They should never have been used to establish government climate policy.

The last century’s global warming of about 1 degree F is not a consequence of human activities. This warming is primarily the result of a multi-century changes in the globe’s deep ocean circulation. These ocean current changes have lead to a small and gradual increase in the globe’s temperature. We are coming out of the Little Ice Age and into a generally warmer climate state. This is akin to the warmer global climate of the Medieval Period. We can do nothing but adapt to such long period natural temperature changes.

The recent ‘ClimateGate’ revelations coming out of the UK University of East Anglia are but the tip of a giant iceberg of a well organized international climate warming conspiracy that has been gathering momentum for the last 25 years. This conspiracy would become much more manifest if all the e-mails of the publically funded climate research groups of the US and of foreign governments were ever made public.

Read it all at Climate Depot.
